English Premier League 2007-08 season has started in a surprising manner. Last year’s champion, Manchester United is struggling and this club has drawn both of the opening matches. This is one of the worst opening performances from Manchester United in the last two decades. In the next match, they are going to face their city rival Manchester City. If Manchester United has a nightmare opening to this season then Manchester City has done exactly the opposite. They have won both of their opening two matches in EPL 2007-08. Actually, Manchester city is in the second position in the league table. This team is doing very well with a new coach and new winner.

You already know that the new coach of Manchester United is Sven-Goran Eriksson who was the former coach of England national football team. Sven-Goran Eriksson already knows a lot about English football and under his coaching Manchester City has a dream start to the new season. In the first match, Manchester City defeated West Ham by 2-0. This match took place in West Ham. SO, you can easily see that Manchester City recorded a convincing away win in the opening match. Then in the second match, Manchester City defeated Derby 1-0.

On the other hand, Manchester United drew both of their matches. On the opening match, Manchester United played in front of their home fans. The Manchester United went to Portsmouth and took the lead in the match but could not win. The worst thing that can happen is that RONALDO was shown red card in the match and so he will be out of action for the next 3 matches including this match against Manchester City. From 2 matches, Manchester United could get only 2 points. Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence will be deeply felt in the match- no doubt about that. However, there is more worry for Alex Ferguson. In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, he will not have Wayne Rooney, Owen Hargreaves, Louis Saha, Anderson and Gary Neville as these players are suffering from injuries.

So, Manchester United will have big problem in the midfield and in striking. Goalkeeper Van der Sar will have to take more responsibility in the match and he may be under more pressure than he would have expected. On the other hand, Manchester City does not have any big injury worry. However, they must not take the match lightly as Manchester United has perhaps the best squad in Premier League this season. Secondly, in the past we have seen Manchester United coming back strongly from a poor start. This season, Manchester United has no problem in terms of having skilled players. Their squad has become stronger with the joining of Argentine player Tevez.

The match will take place on 19 August (this Sunday) at 1330 BST. If you are looking for live coverage of the match in Asia then you should visit the website of ESPNStar and check your local listing. There is a formidable support base for Manchester United in Asian countries. On the other hand, Manchester City has now Asian connection too as the new owner of Manchester City is former Thai Prime Minister.

In goal keeping, Manchester United is surely ahead. In 2007 Community Shield match against Chelsea, Van der Sar saved 3 penalties at a row. However, Manchester City defense have shown that they are not bad. In fact, Manchester City has not suffered any goal until now in this season.

Manchester City vs Manchester United is going to be an excellent match. If you have a chance then don’t miss the match. In the past, Manchester United fans took this match for granted but this time, Manchester City fans have every reason to become optimistic about their team.
