Asian Cup 2007 has already seen many upsets so far. Two host countries Thailand and Vietnam emerged as the two giant killers in the tournament and thus the tournament has become more exciting to the fans. However, Australia’s disastrous performance in the tournament has out a big question as they were one of the favorites in the tournament to win the cup. However, after playing the first two matches they could yet culminate only points. Australia is now clearly on the verge of being eliminated from the preliminary stage of Asian Cup 2007.
The star seeded team, was defeated by Iraq by 1-3 and in the first match, Australia drew against Oman by 1-1. Most of the Australian footballers are now playing for different European clubs in their national league. So, before the tournament Australia was expected to be the hardest contestants in this tournament. However, the reality has been changed as no Australian stars could impress the fans and in the field Australia seems an undisciplined team who does not have any plan regarding the match.
I think the most important reason of such ordinary performance is their inability to play as a team. Most of their players play in different European leagues. So, they might have lack of integration in the team. The players could not get much time to get associated with the teammates and as a result, mutual understanding could not grow among the players because most of the players came from different clubs and different leagues. You know that each of the European leagues has some distinct phenomenon. So, the players can not cope up with a new situation with some new team mates.
So, you can see that the star players and their reputed clubs were the reasons for which all expected Australia as a favorite before the tournament. However, now these star players and their playing abroad have become the mail problem for Australia. Anyway, Australia has still chance to go into the next round but for that they have to win the last match against host Thailand who are now in their top form and in addition, they also have to rely on the result of Oman vs. Iraq match.
