Fed Cup for France without Marion Bartoli

I really don’t know why France Fed Cup captain Georges Goven did not want to take Marion Bartoli in the Fed Cup Semi-final against Italy. I know that French team is much better than Italian team but I cannot find any justification for not taking Bartoli in the team. I really don’t know if there was an issue of ego for Georges Goven. There is media speculation that Georges Goven did not like the idea that Marion Bartoli’s father cum coach would accompany her in Fed Cup semi-final.

Reuters reported:

Goven turned down Bartoli's request to be accompanied by her father and coach, Walter, but said her physical state after a tough fortnight was the main issue.

"It is a long story. I met Marion's father at Wimbledon and there was no question of her coming to play the Fed Cup semi-final," he told a news conference on Friday following the draw for the tie.

"She was very tired and this week there was no way she was going to play anywhere."

Frankly, with this kind of excuse, I have become even more confused. Barotli never said that she was very tired. She is a hard working girl and she showed her capacity in Wimbledon 2007. Secondly, if French team had included Bartoli then it would bring a lot of extra attention among fans as Bartoli is the hot sensation now among tennis fans.
