Japan is undoubtedly one of the most favorite teams in Asian Cup 2007. Japan is the defending champion in the tournament. Japan won the last two Asian Games and now they aim to win their third consecutive Asian Cup victory. However, they started the tournament ordinarily and their players could not impress the fans in the first match of group stage. In the first match, Japan lost point as they drew against Qatar.

Japan will face host Vietnam in their last group match on 16th July. Vietnam is apparently far away from Japan in terms of quality but Vietnam has emerged as a giant killer in Group B. Vietnam. They could yet culminate four points from their first two matches. In the first match, they surprised United Arab Emirates getting a stunning victory of 2-0 and in the second match they also played well against Qatar. Vietnam drew against Qatar by 1-1. Vietnam started the tournament as underdog and many though that they have no probability to get into the quarter final round. However, the reality is that Vietnam may go into the next round if they can do well in the last match against mighty Japan.

On the other hand, for Japan, this will be a do or die match as they have no alternative of winning the match. Vietnam will have the advantage of playing in home and their players will get inspiration to go into the next round from the home fans. Japan has some experienced and young players whereas Vietnamese players are young and energetic. So, as a fan I hope for a competitive match and so do the Asian fans.

  1. Just a thought, what are the chances that these teams play to a 2-2 (or higher-scoring) draw, just to ensure that they both advance? Remember, goals scored in matches involving tied teams count before goal difference.
