Tennis Canada has taken a notable initiative for the development of the undetr-12 age group. This promotional camp has started from 5th October and it will be continued till 9th October. Tennis Canada is focusing on the under 12 age group to make the talents more skilled from an early stage of life. Though Canada is not a big name in the international tennis, this kind of development program may turn Canada a power in the international tennis.
I am quoting some lines regarding this development program from a website:
“This camp marks the first of three such events Tennis Canada plans to offer during the 2006-2007 season. Identified top Canadian athletes under the age of 12 have been brought together with national coaches and sport science specialists at the National Training Centre (NTC) in Toronto. The goal of each camp is to develop the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of each player to increase the odds of developing world champions. All expenses for the camp, including travel and accommodation for out-of-town participants, are paid for by Tennis Canada. The athletes will also receive a participation grant from Tennis Canada to be put toward physical training and lessons.”
Canadian authority wants to include the talent players into a competitive structure. An Under-12 National Tennis Championship funded by Tony and Robyn Eames Family Foundation was organized at April this year. A high promotional consultant, Bob Brett and under-12 program leader and Montreal NTC director, Andre Labelle, will conduct the camp.
It would be a turning point for the tennis in Canada, if this initiative is continued for a long period of time successful. Who knows, a Canadian may dominate the future tennis world as Federar, Sharapova are doing at present.
Canada strives to be the next Croatia.
