Can Maria Sharapova in Fed Cup for Russia

Tennis queen Maria Sharapova is going to participate in the next year’s Fed cup, highest team event of the Women’s tennis, for the first time. This is the first time she will be playing for her country. It is worthless to say that she is in a good pace at the moment, having won the U.S. Open just a month age. She will play against Spain at the first round of the Fed cup in April 21-22 of the next year.

She is very excited getting the chance for playing fro her nation. I am quoting her speech from a website:

“I’m really excited to make my first appearance in the Fed Cup for my country and it is great to be playing the tie in Moscow,” she said.

“Hopefully, myself and the team will put up a strong showing against
Spain, who have a good team.”

It is usually true that a person would be happy after getting a chance like this. However, for Sharapova, it might be a reason of being more happy as it will be her first appearance for her country and with this her dream of representing her country in international tournament becomes true. Here, it is noteworthy that she left her country along with her father for USA with a view to getting good training to the Nick Bollettieri’s tennis camp. Since then, she has been living in USA but she visits her home country twice or thrice a year.

Russian people can expect to regain the Fed cup championship with her performance. Russia got the Fed cup first in 2004 and they could hold the cup in 2005 too. However, this year they lost to Belgium at the quarterfinal stage. Now, the inclusion of Sharapova make ore strong and near to their third title. Moreover, Anastasia Myskina and Elena Dementieva are also in the Russian team.

The organizers of the tournament might be more profitable as the presence of Sharapova in the tournament will easily help the organizers to attract sponsors and there is no doubt that Russians will not lose the chance to see their favorite “Masha” being in the stadium. What else could tournament organizers want?
