Emmanuel Adebayor: Arsenal could Miss the Stars like Cesc Fabregas Next Season

Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has said that the North London club could miss some of their star players if they fail to clinch their place in Champions League next season.  Adebayor, who left Arsenal to join the newly rich Manchester City last Summer, has become a well-known enemy among the Arsenal fans since his departure. Adebayor has said that players like Cesc Fabregas could be tempted to leave the club unless Arsenal finishes at the top four in premier league this season.

Well, Manchester City are eyeing for a top four finish this season following their huge spending last summer. So, Arsenal is expected to face some tough challenge from City this season. However, the good thing for Arsenal is that they have been in good form and started off pretty well in premier league this season. They are currently in the third place and has just 5 points deficit with Chelsea who are leading the point table, but Arsenal has played a game less than the Blues. Moreover, Arsenal has got back some of their injured players recently and it seems that they would display stronger performance in the weeks to come. So, at this moment, it seems that Arsenal is in the right track in the title run.

I do not believe that any star would leave Arsenal only because of their failure to hold on to their champions league place, because they know that Arsenal would retain their place in Europe very soon. I do not know if Fabregas would make a move away from Arsenal or not, but even if he does, it would have nothing to do with Arsenal’s qualification in Champions League.

Should Emmanuel Adebayor be Banned for Provocative Celebration?

It is an issue that the English media is raving around at this moment. Arsenal visited Manchester City last Saturday and lost the game 4-2. Well, there is noting controversial with the result. Emmanuel Adebayor, who joined City for £25m from Arsenal in Summer 2009, however, has conducted something controversial and the Togolese striker is now facing a ban by FA.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored the crucial third goal for City in the game and then ran towards the Arsenal fan gallery to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans. No doubt, his action was provocative and FA has said that it would investigate the matter. Moreover, Arsenal striker Robin van Persie also accused Adebayor of his ‘mindless and malicious’ behaviour during the game. Adebayor apologized for both the charges, but still there is every possibility he could be banned for few games in premier league, if FA finds him guilty on the charges. However, Emmanuel Adebayor does not think that he has done anything for which he could be banned.

Emmanuel Adebayor Set to Return in Action for Togo against Cameroon

(This entry was originally published on Thursday, March 26th, 2009)

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is all set to come back in action after getting over his hamstring injury that he sustained during a goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur back in February. The Togo international is expected to represent his country in the upcoming match against Cameroon on Saturday in an important match of 2010 world cup qualifying round.

Return of Adebayor is something Arsenal is in need desperately as one of their key strikers like Walcott and Eduardo fell in injury for a number of times so far this season. In fact, Walcott picked up a knee injury during training session last week and will be out of action for a fortnight. Eduardo has already gone through two back-to-back minor injuries following his brief return after a year out injured. Now, let us see if Adebayor can make a come back and fill in the gap of Walcott.

Emmanuel Adebayor Wins African Footballer of the Year Award

(This entry was originally posted on Wednesday, February 11th, 2009)

Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor has won the African Footballer of the Year award for his excellent performance in 2008 both for his club Arsenal and his country. Adebayor scored 30 goals in all competitions for the English club and has led Togo to the Africa Cup of Nations 2008 and the final round qualifying round of 2010 world cup football. He defeated Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika and Chelsea’s Ghanaian star Michael Essien in a highly competitive race to become the best footballer in Africa.

Emmanuel Adebayor has become the first player from Togo to win this title. Naturally, he is very happy to win the award. Though he got the support of fellow star African players like Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o, there are some others who think that the award should have gone to star Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika who was instrumental behind Egypt’s triumph in 2008 African Cup of Nations as he scored the winning goal in the final. Even in club level, he helped Al Ahly to win the domestic league as well as the African Champions League. However, there is no doubt that Emmanuel Adebayor was one of the best performers in world football last year.
