NFC payment system: Rim vs Carriers

With the growing number of smartphones, mobile payment is going to be the popular form of paying money soon. Popularly known as NFC, now, RIM and some Carriers are at a bitter feud about NFC data in BlackBerry handsets.
RIM wants the NFC related information to be stored in a part of the device so that the customers cannot move this data to another set. On the other hand, some carriers like Rogers Communications (Canada) and AT&T and T-Mobile (USA) want that the NFC data remains in the SIM card. If this happens then consumers can easily move their SIM to another set.
It seems to be a silly fight but millions (if not billions) of dollars of business is involved with this simple decision.
