Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful that two of his key players Didier Drogba and Petr Cech could be ready for the season opener against Manchester United on 8 August in the FA Community Shield 2010.
Chelsea’s Ivorian striker Didier Drogba, who was the top scorer of Premier League last season, is currently recovering from a groin injury. However, the good news is that the 32-year-old is recovering so quickly that Ancelotti is even considering him featuring in their last pre-season match against Hamburg before facing the Red Devils this weekend. Defender Alex is also recovering fast.
Ancelotti said to the media, “"Drogba we will have a look at during training tomorrow (Monday) and on Tuesday he could play against Hamburg," he added.
He is healing very quickly. When we come back to London I think Alex can also train with us but we have to wait for (Jose) Bosingwa.”
Chelsea is currently sweating over goalkeeping problem. Hilario, who is deputizing for regular keeper Petr Cech, has been unimpressive so far in the pre-season friendly matches. The latest of his goalkeeping mistakes came in Chelsea’s recent 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Now, Ancelotti is hoping for the return of Petr Cech before the Community Shield match. Cech has been out of action for the pre-season friendly matches due to his calf injury. However, there is a very good possibility the 28-year-old could get over the problem in time to feature in the Community Shield match.
Regarding Petr Cech’s recovery, Ancelotti said, “We have some problems with the goalkeepers but it can happen in these moments of the season.
Now we have to maintain these keepers and we hope Petr Cech can recover well before the start of the season.”
Overall, Chelsea has some good news ahead of the Community Shield match. World Cup players like John Terry, Frank Lampard have been back to the business too and it is expected that Carlo Ancelotti would have his key players available for the season opener against Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium in London.
