England U-19 team has reached the semi final of the ongoing UEFA European U-19 Football Championship 2010 in France. Today, England ensured their place in the last four after winning a point through a 1-1 draw with host France in Normandy.

At one point, it looked England U-19 side was going to emulate the disastrous performance of the England senior team at the World Cup last month. However, an injury time strike from winger Matt Phillips helped England to earn a point from the match, and thus, setting up a semi final meeting with Spain on 27 July.

France took lead when Yannis Tafer scored in the 58th minute. England also had their chances, but could not find the back of the net. England striker Nathan Delfouneso squandered off two very good scoring opportunities.

From Group A, France and England have qualified for the semi final stage, leaving behind Netherlands and Austria. Netherlands needed a win in their last match to progress, but they lost to Austria 1-0.

From Group B, Spain and Croatia progressed to the last four ahead of Portugal and Italy. Now, England would face Spain, while France would take on Croatia in their attempt to reach the tournament final.
