Arsenal defeated Barnet 4-0 in their first pre-season friendly on 17 July before setting out for Austria where the Gunners are currently preparing for the next season. Wenger boys defeated Austrian side Sturm Graz 3-0 last Wednesday.

It is pretty much understandable that SC Neusiedl would be a weaker opponent than Sturm Graz for Arsenal. Neusiedl currently plays in the Austrian Regional League East, which is the third division of Austrian domestic football, while Sturm Graz is an Austrian Bundesliga club.

The main objective of these friendly matches is to get prepared for the next season and give some opportunities to the fringe players so that they can prove themselves. Managers can also get the chance to have a final look over his squad before the new season kicks off.

From this point of view, Arsenal has been pretty much successful in their three pre-season friendly affairs. Manager Arsene Wenger featured his young fringe players and some of them including Jay Simpson have already impressed him. Young players have also taken these friendly matches very seriously as they consider it a way to cement a regular place in Arsenal’s starting eleven.

Arsenal did not win any title over the last five years and the Gunners fans are now hoping to see their title draught coming to an end as early as possible. With Cesc Fabregas staying and Wenger bringing in some quality players this summer, fans are now more than hopeful about Arsenal’s bounce back next season.

After the match against SC Neusiedl, Arsenal would return home to take part in the Emirates Cup 2010 which will be held on 31 July and 1 August. Arsenal would consider Emirates Cup as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming season. So, it is less likely that Wenger would conduct a thorough experiment with his squad during the Emirates Cup.

That means Wenger would like to complete his squad experiment in Arsenal’s upcoming fixture against Neusiedl. Neusiedl does not have any star player and Arsenal is clearly favorite against them.

Overall, Neusiedl has nothing to lose in this game as they know they are playing against one of the best clubs in the Europe. Their players could be inspired to show their best against the Gunners in front of home crowd. It looks very hard to imagine an Arsenal defeat, but anything can happen in a friendly match where winning the match is not always the solitary objective.
