Manchester City Preparing a £20m Plus a Player Bid for James Milner

Manchester City is now desperate to acquire the service of Aston Villa’s versatile midfielder James Milner for the next season. The England international has had a highly successful season with Villa and is now reportedly the target of a number of clubs including City’s arch-rival Manchester United and Chelsea. Manchester City already has a £20m bid rejected by Villa for the highly rated player, but manager Roberto Mancini has no intention to give up on his pursuit yet. Rather, he is now planning to offer an improved bid of £20m plus one of the four players: Stephen Ireland, Micah Richards, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nedum Onuoha.

City is expecting that this offer would be enticing enough for Villa to jump in. Villa boss Martin O’Neill may consider the offer seriously thinking that he can get an established player for free plus a £20m surplus to spend in the summer transfer window. However, he may think otherwise too. Manchester City is a big rival for Aston Villa in the race of a Champions league spot. So, he may not like to strengthen City squad with his most prized asset. Rather, he would like to consider the offers from Manchester Untied and Chelsea.

However, Manchester City is now determined to land Milner in their pursuit to become a serious contender for next season’s premier league title. City failed to win a spot in Champions league this season despite spending heavily last summer. However, the Eastlanders, who suddenly got bucket full of money to spend in the transfer market since their Arab takeover, are willing to continue their spending spree this Summer.
