Match: Arsenal vs Everton; English Premier League 2009-10
Date: 9 January 2009
Venue: Emirates Stadium, London, England
Kick off: 15:00 GMT
Third-placed Arsenal will be looking for full 3 points to keep the pressure on Chelsea and Manchester United. Arsenal has been in good form of recent despite consistent injury setbacks. A win over Everton would see Arsenal move within a point of leader Chelsea, and thus, occupying the second place. So, it could be a motivation for the Gunners who are missing some of their regular players through injury and on international duty.

Everton, who have recently got out of the relegation zone on the back of a five-match unbeaten streak, will be trying to hold on to the momentum. They picked up 7 points from those games and are now in the 12th place in the standing. They also have injury problems, but given their recent form, it seems that David Moyes boys would go into the game full of confident.

Everton can be more determined to know that they would face an injury-hit Arsenal who are currently missing the key players Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, Nicklas Bendtner. Left back Gael Clichy has not recovered his back problem and will remain sidelined for Everton’s visit and his ultimate replacement Kieran Gibbs will be in the treatment room at least till March. Theo Walcott is currently out of action with a rib injury, while Johan Djourou will perhaps miss the rest of the season. Moreover, Song is out on international duty and Denilson will take up the holding midfielder’s role against Everton.

Everton also has injury woes ahead of the North London visit. Jack Rodwell, Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin are sidelined, while Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka and Victor Anichebe are also uncertain for the match. Yakubu and Joseph Yobo are on international duty in the African Cup of Nations 2010. Moreover, Tony Hibbert has a groin problem, while Jo will miss the Arsenal match due to suspension.

Everton could face a serious problem in their attacking line up as Jo, Yakubu, Anichebe are all absent for their visit to Arsenal. So, there is possibility manager David Moyes could hand Landon Donovan his debut for Everton. Despite all the injury news, Moyes is optimistic about the encounter and is hopeful about some of his injured players.

David Moyes said, “Victor Anichebe has done a little bit of training with us, Mikel Arteta joined in yesterday - albeit with no contact - Phil Jagielka is out running, Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell have started their running again and Sylvan Distin is not far away.”

There is good news in Arsenal camp too with Arshavin, Denilson and Rosicky are all fit for the home clash with the Merseyside club. In the absence of some key forwards, it seems that Arsenal attack would heavily rely on their Russian star Arshavin.

Probable Squad
Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Traore, Denilson, Ramsey, Diaby, Arshavin, Nasri and Eduardo.

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Neill, Heitinga, Baines, Fellaini, Neville, Pienaar, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill and Saha/ Vaughan.
