Nicolas Anelka: Chelsea is Higher than Arsenal

(This entry was originally published on Friday, April 24th, 2009)

I wonder what is wrong with Nicolas Anelka at this moment. Well, first of all, I am a big Arsenal fan and that is why, you may feel that I am biased. I accept that I am biased but you should hear my logic too. First of all, Nicolas Anelka has stated that he feels that Chelsea is much bigger club than the Gunners and the Gunners will have to be satisfied with the fourth place not only in this season but for the next few years too. He viewed that Arsenal does not have enough quality players to challenge the other big 3 clubs in EPL.

Well, judging by the current form of the Gunners, you may feel that Anelka is right. Now, listen to my logic. First of all, the two clubs have different philosophy about money and football. Abramovich has spent a lot of money for Chelsea in the last 6 years and as a result, the club can spend money freely on buying players. The supporters are happy and they never care for the financial condition of the club.

On the other hand, Arsene Wenger has a different philosophy and he feels that his club should not spend a lot of money for big players. Instead, the club should try to be financially strong and stable during the time of economic recession. The reality is that if tomorrow, Abramovich takes his blessing away then Chelsea will be in real trouble. This kind of thing cannot happen for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger knows that spending big money can bring quality players but it is not the right time.

  1. Excellent point. Chelsea is built on a different and more precarious foundation than Arsenal. Let's not forget that the Arsenal made a good profit and their squad is built on bringing players through the ranks, rather than just splashing big money on them.
