You know that IPL 2009 is currently going on in South Africa and the eight-team twenty20 competition has not blazed to the fullest so far this season. Poor fan following, bowler friendly wickets of South Africa and one-sided affairs have been common-a-scene in the second season of Indian premier league (IPL). Now, the question of organizing a IPL tournament outside India in future arises among the many cricket fans who would love to see the typical twenty20 excitement being kept intact in IPL.
When IPL 2009 was relocated to South Africa last month, there are many who started to claim that IPL was going to become a global brand. There is no doubt, IPL fans and organizers have found themselves in an utter disbelief when it was seen that the second season has not replicate the success of its inaugural tournament held last year.
To be honest, I think, IPL is still popular only in India. India is the biggest market for cricket and that is why, IPL gets so much attention in world cricket, though it is still far away to claim the status of a global brand. I do not think that IPL organizers would like to host any other IPL tournament in future outside its motherland. India is a country where cricket is considered to be a religion and it is one of the two biggest sources of entertainment for a large number of population. I hope that IPL organizers would understand the matter and would not ponder to arrange another IPL tournament outside India in future. Do you think that organizing IPL twenty20 tournament outside India would be a viable option to make IPL a global brand?
