England Squad for T20 and ODI Series against Australia and Champions Trophy

Andrew Flintoff may have announced his retirement from test cricket, but there is no doubt, he has a vital role to play in England’s one day and twenty20 squads. Flintoff is going to retire from test cricket after the current Ashes series. However, England selectors named him in England’s one day squad for the upcoming one day match against Ireland and 7-match ODI series against Australia. The 31-year-old all rounder has also been included in England squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2009 and England’s twenty20 squad that will face Australia in a two-match twenty20 series.

The only new face in the squad is Joe Denly, an emerging batsman from Kent. Denly has been in an excellent form in domestic cricket recently and he is going to replace injured star batsman Kevin Pietersen who will be out of action for quite sometime, and thus, missing the Champions Trophy. Alastair Cook, James Foster, Robert Key and Dimitri Mascarenhas, Steve Harmison and Ian Bell have been left out of the squad.

Young batsman Ravi Bopara, leg spinner Adil Rashid, Owais Shah and wicketkeeper Matt Prior have been able to make the cut. You know that Jonathan Trott has replaced out of-form Ravi Bopara for the final Ashes test, but the newcomer could clinch a place in England’s twenty20 squad.

Well, actually I think that England should nurture the new talents, considering the ICC World Cup 2011 which is due to be held in the sub-continent. England has not been pretty much consistent over the last couple of years and time has come for England to deliver something bigger at the biggest stage of the game.
