Saina Nehwal Now Really Shining

Saina Nehwal, the rising star of the badminton world, has finally caught the media attention after her recent triumph in Indonesia Open, which is a prestigious BWF Super Series tournament. In fact, the 19-year-old Indian star has become the first badminton player from India to achieve this distinction. Saina won the Indonesia Open title by defeating Lin Wang in three sets in the tournament final.

Moreover, Saina Nehwal also made history when she won the World Junior Badminton Championships last year becoming the first Indian to do so. She also reached the quarter finals of Beijing Olympics Games 2008 as the fist Indian woman. The year 2008 also saw Saina winning the Commonwealth Youth Games title.

Neither the World Junior Badminton Championships nor the Beijing Olympics success brought enough media attention for the young prodigy of Indian badminton, but Saina Nehwal earned huge media coverage for her success in last month’s Indonesia Open.

While giving an interview with The Times of India, Saina said that she really felt bad for not getting enough focus from media despite her success in world junior Badminton championships and Olympics. However, she is now happy the way she was greeted following her recent success. Saina was given a heroic welcome upon her arrival in India and she thinks that she deserved such welcome much before.

Saina Nehwal, who is currently ranked no. 7, has called for equal treatment to all sports in the country. When asked about her opinion regarding sports personalities getting into movie world, Saina said that she has no intention to do that because she thinks that getting into movie could seriously affect someone’s career where he/she belongs to. Finally, the good-looking Saina said that she is now happy because people now recognize her as Saina, not Sania (Sania Mirza, Indian tennis star).

The word ‘Saina’ means shining. No doubt, Saina is really shining now.
