(This entry was originally published on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009)

Captain Daniel Vettori’s excellent bowling helped New Zealand to clinch a 7-wciekt victory over the visiting West Indies today at Wellington in the third ODI of the five-match series. Winning the toss New Zealand sent West Indies to batting first and from the very beginning New Zealand bowlers dominated over the visiting batsmen. Highest 45 runs came from middle order batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s bat, but that was not enough to build a decent total on the board. Except Chanderpaul’s 45, Nikita Miller’s unbeaten 25 and Chris Gayle’s 18, no other West Indies batsmen could show any resistance, and thus, got all out for 128. Daniel Vettori picked up 4 wickets for 20 in his 10 overs.

New Zealand batsmen did not have any problem to chase down such a small target. In fact, New Zealand needed only 20.3 overs to reach the target losing only 3 wickets. Ross Taylor scored highest 51 runs of New Zealand innings. New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was awarded the man of the match award for his match winning bowling performance.
