Adil Rashid: England’s Next Spin Prospect?

(This entry was first published on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009)

Adil Rashid is considered to be England’s next spin hope. The leg spinner has already showed his potential and skill as a spinner as well as an effective lower order batsman in English county cricket. Since his debut in first class cricket in 2006 for Yorkshire, Adil Rashid has been improving continuously. The 20-year-old young leg spinner picked up 65 wickets in 2008 and it was enough for him to earn a call from England national team for India tour. Though Adil Rashid was not handed his debut during England’s tour of India, it is expected that the spinner might get his debut in England’s upcoming tour to West Indies who are always weak against spin bowling.

Adil Rashid is the product of spin program led by Terry Jenner who is known as a Spin Doctor in the cricket world. Rashid also excelled while representing England U-19 squad. He has immense potential in him and there are many who see him as the hope of England spin attack. However, Adil Rashid has said that he is very much surprised to see that he has come this far within 3 years of his debut in first-class cricket. Now, he does not want to let the chance go down, stating that he is ready for his debut in international cricket during West Indies tour in what, he thinks, would be a big bonus for himself.
