Ten Sports Got Television Rights of Pakistan Team for 5 Years for $145.5 Million

Sports channel, Ten Sports, has acquired the television rights of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the next 5 years. Under this deal worth $145.5 million, Ten Sports, a Dubai-based television channel, will have the exclusive right of broadcasting all the bilateral home series of Pakistan cricket team in Pakistan. PCB received five bids for the deal and Ten Sports posted highest bid and finally signed the deal.

Pakistan cricket is now largely suffering from the security condition in the country. In fact, suicide bomb attacks have become common-a-thing in the country. Considering the security concern, Australian cricket team postponed a pre-scheduled tour to Pakistan. Later on, ICC (International Cricket Council) also postponed Champion Trophy 2008 which was supposed to take place in Pakistan in September. ICC has recently rescheduled the tournament on September 2009, but the venue is not yet confirmed. In fact, ICC will evaluate the security condition of Pakistan during Indian’s upcoming tour to Pakistan. Being unable to organize a home series, Pakistan took part in a four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Toronto, Canada and recently faced West Indies in a three-match ODI series in Abu Dhabi. Ten Sports’ deal will kick off with India’s upcoming tour to Pakistan.
