English Premier League Clubs Attracted by Indian Market

India has already been picked up as a potential market for English Premier League clubs who are now looking for gaining more and more market share in this yet-to-be-explored market. The latest of the evidence of premier league teams’ attraction toward Indian football market has been Liverpool football club’s backing in setting up a football academy in Pune, India.

Earlier, Manchester United and Arsenal organized talent hunt programs in India, while North London-based club Tottenham Hotspur which is now looking for a partner in India in order to hold a strong foothold in the lucrative Indian football market.

Traditionally, football is not a hugely popular game in India. In fact, except few states like West Bengal, Goa, there is no other state where football is as popular as cricket, the most popular game in the country. However, the things have started changing recently as English premier league becoming more and more popular over the last four or five years.

The television ratings for English premier league in India has been increased significantly recently and it is expected that the growth will continue in the next few years as well. English clubs have already tried to explore US, African and other markets without bringing any significant success. However, premier league is now very much attracted towards huge Asian region. Specially, the countries like China, India and Malaysia have all the potential to become the next big markets of premier league teams.
