Russian world no. 1 Dinara Safina defeated 9th seed Victoria Azarenka coming back from 1 set down and reached semi final of French Open 2009. The Russian star is now just two matches away from her first ever Grand slam title. 23-year-old, Safina, was the losing finalist of French Open last year and then made another final at Australian Open 2009.
Victoria Azarenka came into the match with the memory of a comfortable fourth round victory over defending champion Ana Ivanovic fresh in mind. The Belarusian won the first set pretty easily 6-1, but Safina bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. No doubt, the Russian is now gearing up to win her first ever grand slam title at Roland Garros. Dinara Safina will face Serbian Dominika Cibulkova in the semi final.
