PCB Sent Legal Notice to ICC

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a legal notice to International Cricket Council (ICC) for its decision to take away Pakistan’s status as a co-host of 2011 ICC World Cup. The decision was taken in a recent ICC board meeting held in Dubai. Though PCB earlier criticized this decision orally, this has been the first legal action taken by PCB against this decision.

Following a terror attack on Sri Lankan team last March, the security condition of Pakistan was deteriorated. ICC’s decision of stripping off Pakistan as one of the co-hosts of ICC World Cup 2011 came in the wake of Lahore terror attack. However, PCB chief Ijaz Butt, has said that the decision taken by ICC was ‘legally flawed’ and the issue was not in the agenda of the board meeting. He also said that PCB had not been given any prior notice on this regard and there was no security assessment of the country before taking such a decision.

To be honest, I think, Pakistan’s security condition has not been improved yet. The time has not come to stage international cricket in Pakistan again. However, the way ICC took the decision was not legally right either. Before taking such a big decision, ICC must have conducted an official security assessment of Pakistan and the issue should have been in the agenda.
