Pakistan to Miss Shoaib Akhtar in Twenty20 World Cup 2009

Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has been ruled out of next month’s twenty20 world cup 2009 which will go underway on 5 June in England. The reason of Shoaib being ruled out of the twenty20 tournament is skin infection in his groin for which doctors advised him to take rest for 10-12 days to recover. Doctors will re-assess his condition in the first week of June, but there is no probability of Shoaib coming back into the squad of twenty20 world cup. In fact, team management has already asked for a replacement and Rao Iftikhar might fill in the gap of Shoaib Akhtar, even though Rao Iftikhar was not part of the week-long conditioning camp which took place at a hill resort which is situated near Islamabad.

Well, for the last couple of years, Shoaib Akhtar has missed a lot of cricket action because of series of injuries and breaching discipline. Moreover, his recent form was not very impressive. However, there is no doubt, Shoaib Akhtar could have been an effective pace weapon for Pakistan in England’s bowling friendly condition.
