Arsenal vs Fenerbahce: Preview and Live Score

Arsenal will face Fenerbahce at home tomorrow (5 November 20008) in a group G match of Champions League 2008-09. After demolishing the Turkish champions last month on the road, Arsenal seems to be favorite against Fenerbahce, but Arsenal’s recent from is not as impressive as it was few weeks back. Arsenal recently suffered a humiliating 2-1 defeat at Stoke City in premier league and has been dropped to the fourth place in the league point table with 20 points from 11 matches. Fenerbahce is no better in Turkish league with 13 points from 9 matches and sits in the 9th position in the league. Though their overall record so far this season is disappointing, Fenerbahce’s recent form is comparatively better. So, in this sense, both sides will look for a revamp in the match.

Match: Arsenal vs Fenerbahce; Group G, Champions League 2008-09

Date: 5 November 2008, Wednesday

Venue: Emirates Stadium, London

Kick off: 19:45 BST (British Standard Time)

Live on TV: Sky Sports 3 television channel

Arsenal is leading the point table of Group G with 7 points from 3 matches in Champions league, while Fenerbahce takes the last spot in the table with only 1 point from 3 matches. They started their campaign in Europe with a 1-1 draw at Dynamo Kyiv. However, the North London club demolished Porto 4-0 at home in the second match, before heading to Istanbul to pull off an excellent 5-2 victory over home side Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce’s from in Europe is no better than their domestic form. The Turkish giants started their Europe mission with a 3-1 defeat away at Porto. The next of Fenerbahce was at home where they drew with Dynamo Kyiv, before suffering the 5-2 humiliation by Arsenal at home. So, in order to keep their hope of reaching the knock-out stage alive, Fenerbahce has to avoid defeat against Arsenal.

For Arsenal, they have not been at their best at this moment. Last week, Arsenal was forced to draw 4-4 with Tottenham Hotspur, even though they were leading 4-2 even after 90 minutes, but two injury time strikes by Tottenham turned around the result of the North London derby. After that, Arsenal suffered another setback at Stoke City where they were beaten 2-1 by the newly promoted club. So, Arsenal will definitely be looking for a comprehensive victory over the Turkish club at the Emirates stadium tomorrow.

Arsene Wenger has recently said he is concerned about the fact that Arsenal could not create as many chances in the defeat to Stoke City as they usually do. This is what he gives much focus on ahead of the match against Fenerbahce.

Live News reported:

"My biggest worry is that we did not create a lot," Wenger said of the 2-1 defeat at Stoke.
"We are not used to playing without creating chances and that is very frustrating."
Wenger told the club's website that he might have to reshuffle his squad for Wednesday's match.
"We have to rotate. Unlike Stoke we play in between (Premier League matches) and the games in the Champions League are very demanding. You cannot play with the same side."

The main problem of Arsenal is that they are inconsistent when it comes to performance. They were impressive in many matches and won a number of matches pretty convincingly in a row, but soon after, they slipped at the teams like Hull City, Fulham and most recently at Stoke City. That means, the Gunners have made a somewhat mixed start to the season, even though they have some quality players like Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas, Theo Walcott, Emmanuel Adebayor etc. For Arsenal, it is now necessary to show some consistency in their performance, if they still want to retain the premier league table. Their form in Europe is really impressive as they netted 10 goals in three matches with two victories and a draw.

For Fenerbahce, their overall miserable performance so far this season- both at home as well as in Europe- earned criticism for their newly appointed coach Luis Aragones, who guided Spain to win the Euro 2008. However, the club fans are not happy with the performance of Fenerbahce and they are disappointed with Luis Aragones. The good news for the club as well for Luis Aragones is that they have been back at winning run after the home defeat to Arsenal. They won two out of their three games in Turkish Super League recently. So, I think, Fenerbahce will have more confidence this time than they had while facing Arsenal at home.

Arsenal is favorite against Fenerbahce considering Arsenal’s home advantage as well as the team strength, but you can not write off Fenerbahce yet. If they can play inspirational football against Arsenal, then a draw is a very possible for the Turkish club, if not a win. For Arsenal, they must be gearing up themselves in order to get back on winning track. I would say that Arsenal has better chance in the match, but everything depends on how well they can hold their confidence and to what extent Fenerbahce can play motivational football. I hope that there will be an exciting match at the Emirates Stadium between Arsenal and Fenerbahce.
