Matthew Upson in Belarus vs England 2008

England center defender Matthew Upson thinks that he deserves a place in the England line up, even knowing the fact that he needs to compete with the likes of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, in order to secure a place in the starting line up. Terry and Ferdinand, captain and vice captain of England team respectively, have made a solid partnership in the English defense and are the first choice centre defenders for England line up for a number of years now.

Well, Matthew Upson does not want to bother what Terry and Ferdinand are doing, rather he only wants to focus on his game and he feels he deserves a place in the England line up regularly. Fortunately, Matthew Upson was part of England’s starting line up in two of their three world cup qualifying matches so far. Matthew Upson played against Andorra in the opening match as Ferdinand was given rest, while he was included in the Kazakhstan match in place of Terry.
