Chelsea’s Plea to Keep John Mikel Obi out for Nigeria’s World Cup Qualifier

You perhaps already know that Chelsea has been hit badly by injury as the Blues are currently missing the services of regular team members like Michael Essien, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho, Didier Drogba and Joe Cole. John Mikel Obi has been in sparkling form from the beginning of the season and in the absence of Essien, John Mikel Obi is the only reliable holding midfielder left in the Chelsea squad. So, Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari requested Nigeria manager Shaibu Amodu not to include John Mikel Obi in the squad for the upcoming world cup qualifier.

The plea was made personally by Chelsea boss Filipe Scolari to his Super Eagles counterpart Shaibu Amodu when the Nigerian gaffer met with the Brazilian at Stamford Bridge yesterday,

Chelsea received their last injury blow during their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the recent premier league match as Joe Cole was limped off the field after scoring the first goal. However, Chelsea is currently leading the table with 17 points from 7 matches. As Chelsea does not have any schedule until 18 October, Luiz Felipe Scolari can be hopeful to get some of the injured players back to the squad by then. Now, let us see how Chelsea can successfully continue their impressive run in the league, despite the injury problems.
