Chelsea Defeated Aston Villa 2-0 thanks to First-Half Goals from Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka

Chelsea defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at home easily on Sunday night to ensure their top place in the league table with 17 points. Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari termed it Chelsea’s most important game so far this season. There were many who thought that Aston Villa, who went into the game at the 4th place and had lost only one game in the premier league this season, might make an upset or Chelsea might have to share points with Villa. However, two first half goals from Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka ensured three points for Chelsea and extended their outstanding undefeated home run.

Aston Villa had many more reasons to be confident ahead of the game because they gained four points against Chelsea last season including a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, Chelsea was missing a number of star players out with injury including Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Deco and Ricardo Carvalho. Still, Chelsea dominated over Aston Villa and did not have to face any strong challenge from the visiting side in the match. The home side created a number of scoring chances in the match and could have scored even more. With this defeat, Aston Villa fell down to 5th place with same 13 points of Arsenal who secures the 4th place on superior goal difference.
