Cesc Fabregas Thinks Arsenal Lacks Experience

The man whom Arsene Wenger mostly relied on now seems to be betraying. Arsene Wenger has been criticized many times for his reliance on his young players. Now, one of his start young guns, Cesc Fabregas, has reacted strongly against Wenger’s strategy to go with young talented players like Fabregas, Samir Nasri.

Well, Fabregas did not directly criticized Wenger, but he has revealed that Arsenal has a short squad and lacks experience which, he thinks, has made it hard for Arsenal to win matches. With the departure of Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva over the Summer, Arsenal midfield is left with Fabregas, Denilson, Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott whose average age is 20 and Cesc Fabregas is the oldest among these four current midfielders at Arsenal. Fabregas, 21, is now feeling the pressure of being the oldest men in the midfield.

Telegraph reported:

He said: "Our squad is a bit short on numbers and we are very young. It's hard to imagine a midfield where I am the oldest member.

"We find it very hard to win matches, as we don't possess enough experience.

"I scored 13 goals last season but then I had plenty of allies. Rosicky was around, Flamini covered every blade of grass and Hleb was like a brother to me out there.

"The team played with a lot of skilful touches, we were as solid as a brick wall and our opponents would not get a look in.

"Now none of those players and in the side and I feel like a rare being. We are more defensive-minded and sturdy as a team but we don't play so much skilful stuff."

Well, I partly agree with Cesc Fabregas. I think he is right on the fact that Arsenal has a very short squad which is not conducive for a long league like English Premier League which includes 38 games, besides FA Cup, Carling Cup and Champions League matches. For so many matches, you need a number of quality options at every position so that you can keep your squad rotating in order to give enough rest to the players and cover injured players.

However, I do not think that it is experience for which Arsenal is struggling to win silverware. Arsenal has experienced players like William Gallas. Even Hleb, Flamini were not very experienced either. The main problem that Arsenal faced last season was losing some key players through injury towards the end of the season. So, I think, Wenger should ponder on recruiting some players so that he can give enough rest to the key players like Fabregas, Nasri etc.
