The final score was 6-4, 7-5. It surely shows that it was a close match. I mean that you may think, Serena Williams just played good enough to win the match with the narrowest of distances. Yes, I agree with you that Serena was a bit lucky in the end. Jelena Jankovic also contributed some to make Serena as the champion of US Open 2008 ladies singles.
Jelena Jankovic was too much excited to be in the final. She was so happy that she forgot her tennis and started celebrating little too early perhaps. Jelena Jankovic made a lot of unforced errors and that in the cost her the match. However, I should not decrease the credit of Serena Williams. She is a born fighter. With this win, she again regained number one ranking in tennis. The last time, she was the number one ranked player in tennis was in 2003. Thus, it took her 5 years to come back in the top spot. I don’t know of any other female tennis player who could do similar thing. In fact, in US Open 2008, Serena Williams did not lose any set.
US Open 2008 has ended for all the girls. Now, it is time to take some rest and think of the next Grand Slam Tournament- Australian Open 2009.
