Brazil women’s football team defeated Germany 4-1 in the semi final today to reach the final at Beijing Olympic Games 2008. Going into the match with the hope of taking revenge of their defeat to Germany in last year’s world cup final, Brazilian players outclassed the Germans clinching a big margin victory. Brazil will face the winner of the second semi final between Japan and USA in the women’s football final.
Germany started off well in the match as Birgit Prinz put them ahead in the 10th minute of the first half. However, Brazil continued to attack on German defense and retaliated with four goals to confirm their second consecutive Olympic final. Four years back in Athens, Brazil lost to USA in the final. Just two minutes after Prinz’s strike, Germany could have made it 2-0, if Melanie Behringer’s shot did not go wide off the target. In the 43rd minute, Brazil got the equalizer thanks to Formiga.
Four minutes into the second half, Cristiane scored after receiving the ball from Marta and Brazil got a lead. The lead was increased when Marta hit an excellent goal in the 53rd minute of the match. Then Cristiane scored his second goal in the 76th minutes to seal the victory.
