Liverpool Striker Fernando Torres Eyes on Captaincy

Liverpool’s Spanish striker Fernando Torres has recently expressed his desire to lead Liverpool one day. Well, having read that, do not sense anything like Torres is going to be in the race of captaincy with Steven Gerrard or to be involved in a conflict with current captain Steven Gerrard. Actually, he has been full of praise about Gerrard claiming that he has learnt from Gerrard how to be a great leader. He has also indicated the kind of pressure Gerrard faces as a captain everyday. Torres compared this pressure with his own experience as a captain at his former club Atletico Madrid recalling the days of his captaincy.

Fernando Torres has been in an excellent form at Liverpool last season, his debut season, scoring 33 goals for the all reds. He joined Liverpool in 2007 from Atletico Madrid on a £22 million deal. He has proven what he has in him and what he could offer for the club. Torres played a big role in Spain’s Euro 2008 victory, netting the winning goal in the final against Germany. Torres has also been full of praise about Rafael Benitez, manager of Liverpool, for his inspiration throughout last season.

I think, Torres is a matured player and has the skill to be a future leader of Liverpool. However, he should not focus on captaincy yet, rather should focus on his own performance to bring some success for Liverpool.
