Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario to be Inducted into Rogers Cup Hall of Fame in 2008

You already know that Rogers Cup 2008, sponsored by National Bank, will take place at the Uniprix Stadium, Montreal in Canada. The tournament begins on 26 July and continues till 3 August 2008. The Tire I tournament on WTA tour will include seven out of top ten players of WTA ranking. In fact, this is going to be the first tournament for the top three players of ranking including Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and Maria Sharapova. So, no doubt, this is going to be a star studded tournament for the tennis fans.

The sponsor of Rogers Cup and Tennis Canada has recently declared that former world no. 1 Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario will be inducted into Rogers Cup hall of fame in the upcoming tournament. Four-time grand slam winner Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario had some wonderful memory at Rogers Cup (formerly Canadian Open) event, winning the title twice in 1992 and 1994 besides three more appearances in Canadian Open final. The Spanish star won 69 titles in her career with a career win-loss record of 759–295 in singles. Sanchez-Vicario earned US$16,942,640 in her illustrious career. Last year, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.

The 37-year old Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario will officially receive the honor at a ceremony to be held at the Uniprix Stadium in Montreal, Canada on July 29. Upon receiving the honor, she will join some of the legends of tennis including Roy Emerson, Ivan Lendl, Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, all of whom were already inducted into Rogers Cup hall of fame.
