Euro 2008: Turkey Sealed a Thrilling Victory over Czech Republic to Reach the Quarter Final

Turkey reached the quarter final of Euro 2008 after clinching an extraordinary victory over Czech Republic 3-2 last night in a Group A match. Coming down from 2-0, Turkey recorded perhaps the most thrilling victory so far in the tournament. At the half time, Czech Republic was leading by 1 goal and when Czech Republic doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute, it was enough for the football pundits to write off Turkey. However, much of actions were still left in the match. Turkey magnificently bounced back scoring three goals in the last 15 minutes of the game. With this defeat, Czech Republic has been ruled out of the tournament from the group stage.

Jan Koller heade opened scoring in the first half putting Czech Republic ahead in the match. Then 17 minutes into the second half Jaroslav Plasil scored the second goal for Czech Republic. Turkey replied in the 75th minutes thanks to Arda Turan goal, but still Czech Republic seemed to be the second team to join the quarter final from this group. However, Turkey captain Nihat Kahveci scored two back to back goals in the 87th and 89th minutes of the match to seal the victory for Turkey. The only bad news for Turkey fans is that goal keeper Volkan Demirel was shown red card in the injury time that means Turkey will miss their no. 1 goal keeper in the quarter final against Croatia on Friday. No doubt, it was an excellent match to enjoy and this match will be remembered for a long time for Turkey’s magnificent come back in the match.
