Euro 2008: Switzerland to Take on Turkey in their Second Group Match

Switzerland will take on Turkey in their second group match in Euro 2008 on Wednesday at the St. Jakob-Park, Basel. Both teams lost their first match in opening day of the tournament. Switzerland was beaten by Czech Republic, while Turkey was outclassed by Portugal in their respective first match in Euro 2008. So, it is for sure, both sides are now looking to win the upcoming match in order to keep their quarter final hope alive in the tournament. The loser of the match would be out of the quarter final race even with a match left. On the other hand, the winner of the match would be bale to keep their hope alive to get secure a quarter final spot. However, a draw between Switzerland and Turkey would ensure the quarter final berth for the winner of the Czech Republic vs Portugal match.

Switzerland is the co-host of the tournament alongside Austria. So, they will have home advantage in the match, but that may not bring out any fruitful result if Switzerland can not play well in the match. Turkey will be under a lot of pressure after losing the first match. The two sides faced each other on eight occasions with Turkey winning four times and Switzerland winning twice. The two other matches ended in draw. Now, this time Turkey looks to win the match once again, in their quest to survive in the competition. However, home crowds will come to enjoy the match with the hope to see their team emerging winner and keeping their hope alive in the tournament.
