Euro 2008: Croatia and Germany Facing Each Other in their Bid to Win Quarter Final Berth

Croatia and Germany are going to face each other in their second group stage match on Thursday looking to win a place in the quarter final of Euro 2008 tournament. The winner of the match will easily get into the last eight, while a draw would make the competition tougher for the all four teams of Group B. The match will take place at Worthersee, Klagenfurt on 12 June 2008. Both teams will look to win the match. So, it is expected to be an interesting match to enjoy.

Germany and Croatia both started the tournament with victory, with Germany defeating Poland 3-0 and Croatia winning over Austria 1-0 in their respective opening matches. So, the two teams are currently leading the Group B point table with Germany holding the top place in goal difference. Germany is one of the favorite sides of the tournament, while Croatia can be considered as a dark horse of Euro 2008. So, upsets are very much possible to come by whenever the teams like Croatia plays against big teams like Germany.

For Croatia, a defeat against Germany would not put an end to their Euro 2008 campaign, but if they can secure a victory or at least a draw against Germany, it would help Croatia feel inspired ahead of the upcoming matches. On the other hand, anything less than a victory for Germany would not satisfy the German fans who are willing to see their team cruise into the quarter final winning their second straight match in Euro 2008.

In head to head meetings, Germany has better record as they won five out of seven previous meetings with Croatia. However, Croatia caused an upset defeating Germany 3-0 in the 1998 FIFA World Cup tournament. Croatian players can inspire themselves remembering that victory ahead of today’s match. Both teams are confident enough to take on each other today- thus indicating an interesting encounter in Klagenfurt today. Who do you think is going to win the match?
