Surprise Continues by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in French Open 2008?

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga astonished the tennis world by reaching the Australian Open 2008, coming into as an unseeded player. Though the Frenchman lost to Serbian Novak Đoković in the final, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga stars to shine once again ahead of another grand slam, French Open 2008. Recently, he reached the semi final of the Grand Prix Hassan II, where he will play against fellow countrymen Gilles Simon.

Tsonga defeated Rafael Nadal, Mikhail Youzhny, Richard Gasquet in her way to reach the Australian Open 2008 final. Because of her impressive performance in Australian Open, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is now ranked 14. Now, French Open 2008 gets underway on Sunday. This time, he can expect to get the support of home crowd. However, this time, the spotlight is on him too. Home fans will expect another special performance from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, known as Mohammad Ali in tennis because of his resemblance with boxing great.

Well, question remains if Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will continue his dream run in French Open 2008 as well. However, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga seems to have a tough draw in the competition. He has been drawn into the section 3 of top half. He starts the tournament against a qualifier in the first round. Even in the second and third round, he will not face any established player. However, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga might have to face former world no. 1 Marat Safin or Thomas Johansson or current world no. 4 Nikolay Davydenko in the fourth round. So, reaching quarter final would not be that much easy for the Frenchman. Fifth ranked David Ferrer or Lleyton Hewitt or Tommy Robredo could be his possible quarter final opponent. All of them are very experienced and would not be easily defeated.

If Jo-Wilfried Tsonga survives in the quarter final, Roger Federer is the most probable opposition. So, you can see that from the fourth round, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has to go though some of the big players of tennis world. Well, still I am hopeful about Tsonga, because he has done it once meaning he has the ability to do it. If one can do something once, why not once again? So, for the fans of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, I think, they should rely on this emerging star of tennis.
