The stadium has 200 tonnes of soil from South Africa in order to make the pitch bouncy. Sand-based grass covers the outfield, thus the probability of injury has been reduced. The stadium has good drainage system. The four floodlight towers of the stadium are taller than the typical floodlight towers, thus making no problem for the batsmen in the evening.

Both Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals projected enthralling victories over their respective semi final opponents. Rajasthan Royals won against Delhi Daredevils by 105 runs in the first semi final of IPL 2008. In the second semi final, Chennai defeated Kings XI Punjab in the similar fashion by 9 wickets.
