Chelsea Knocked out of FA Cup being Defeated by Barnsley

Chelsea has suffered a humiliating 0-1 defeat to championship side Barnsley in the quarter final of FA Cup. With this defeat, Chelsea has been out of the tournament, while Barnsley made it to the semi final of FA Cup for the first time in nearly hundred years. Barnsley’s Nigerian player Odejayi scored the winner for Barnsley and ensured a place in the semi final of FA Cup. John Terry spent some scary moments to stop Odejayi. Though Chelsea made a flurry of attacks at the end, it could not bring the equalizer for Chelsea.

Chelsea could not put on their imperious form that they have shown in their recent premier league matches. Chelsea manager Avram Grant gave the credit to Barnsley and said that Barnsley showed a lot of spirit. Barnsley manager Simon Davey described it an ecstatic victory what he could not believe. It is natural to have that kind of feeling as it was a complete surprise for both sides.

Chelsea was the last of the top four premier league side in the competition as Manchester United was beaten by Portsmouth earlier on the day. Arsenal and Liverpool also got out of the tournament in earlier rounds. So, it is obvious that the FA Cup trophy of this season would go to a club out of premier league.
