Inter Milan vs Liverpool: Live Score and Live Updates

Liverpool welcomes Inter Milan at the Anfield stadium on 19 February in the first leg match of last 16 round of Champions League 2007-2008. No doubt, both teams have huge popularity in home and abroad. Both Liverpool and Inter Milan are high profile teams of Europe. However, with Liverpool’s inconsistent performance might make you feel different about their class, but the truth is that Liverpool is the champion of Champions League 2005 and the English club has the highest number of premier league titles to their credit.

However, Liverpool is going through a patchy from so far this season. After playing 25 matches, the all reds are now 19 points behind the leader Arsenal in the premier league. So, it is almost certain that Liverpool is out of title race. Rather, they are now struggling to hold on fourth place at the premier league in order to confirm their Champions league place next season. Added to that, Rafael Benítez boys have suffered a humiliating 1-2 defeat to Championship Barnsley in the fifth round match of FA Cup. So, Champions league is now the only competition Liverpool can hold on their hopes to win silverware.

Back to Inter Milan, the Italian giants have been in imperious form so far this season with suffering no match being lost in the league so far this season. They are now leading the Serie A. Even in Champions league 2007-2008, Inter Milan made it to the last 16 as the champion of group G with the only defeat to Turkish club Fenerbahce. However, Liverpool’s Champions league run was not smooth either. With two loses and a draw against three victories won a place for Liverpool in the first round of knock out stage.

Liverpool’s patchy form is now the main worry of their fans. They have won only one of their last six premier league matches including a defeat and four draws. For the club like Liverpool, making draws is nothing. Liverpool must try their best to win the home match against Inter Milan which will bring an advantage for Liverpool before they take on Inter Milan away in the second leg match.

The last blow that Liverpool received was its 2-0 defeat to Barnsley last night. It is true that Liverpool manager Rafa Benítez rested some of the fit players thinking of the Champions league tie with Inter Milan. However, still it was beyond the imagination of Liverpool that they would be knocked out of FA Cup.

Goal.com reported:

Rafa Benítez made four changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Chelsea, with Itandje, Hyypia, Benayoun and Alonso all coming in. Some of the bigger stars were rested with the Internazionale game in mind.

The only good news for Liverpool fans is that their in form striker Fernando Torres has recovered from the injury sustained during Spain’s 1-0 victory over France last week. Torres was fit even before the FA Cup match, but Benítez was reluctant to take any risk regarding him. However, Fernando Torres will be in first team contention for the Champions League clash with Inter Milan. Sami Hyypia is not yet confirmed for the match.

Telegraph reported:

"Torres also did the warm-up (before training), as well as Fabio Aurelio and Alvaro Arbeloa, and they are really close.

"Now it is about whether we will take the risk or not."

Meanwhile, defender Martin Skrtel is a major doubt for this weekend's FA Cup clash with Barnsley after he picked up a calf injury in training.

Now, for Inter Milan, they are in impressive form so far this season. Inter Milan defeated Livorno 2-0 in their last match in Serie A. Inter Milan also rested their in-from striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the match against Livorno, considering their trip to Liverpool. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be in the final line up for the Champions League tie with Liverpool. He scored 14 goals in the league and stands second in the list of highest scorer. The way Inter Milan has been playing so far this season, it is certain that they are going to throw a strong challenge for Liverpool, even in the home match.

The match seems to be very competitive. Liverpool has the only way left ahead of them to win the silverware this season. So, Liverpool is expected to be motivated for the match. Liverpool is undoubtedly a strong team with the combination of youth and experienced players. So, if they can play according to their merit, Liverpool can repeat their Champions League success of 2005 this season. On the other hand, Inter Milan is in impressive form and if they continue their winning run then it is for sure that the task will not be easy for Liverpool. So, I hope to see a mind blowing match.
