Arsene Wenger Determined to Hold on Five-Point Lead at the Top of Premier League

Arsenal has opened up a five-point lead at the top of English premier league, defeating Blackburn Rovers at home last night. The 2-0 victory of Arsenal left Manchester United five points behind the leaders. So, it seems that Arsenal is now in a comfortable situation with 12 matches still left in the season. Arsene Wenger has admitted that he did not expect that Arsenal would go five points clear at the top of the league point table. He has also said that Arsenal was a bit under pressure considering the opportunity came to them following Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City the previous night. Wenger has vowed that his side would not slip off any point giving any opportunity to Manchester United to decrease the difference.

BBC reported:

"It was a very good weekend for us," Wenger added. "But we were a bit under pressure to take advantage of the situation after what happened on Sunday."

"We had a great start and for the first 20 minutes we were outstanding.

"When we dropped the pace a little, Blackburn came into it. But we produced a good defensive performance and they did not create many chances."

"We are in a good position," he explained. "We believe we can do it - we always had the belief from the first day," Wenger added.

Arsenal has been in impressive form so far this season except a few setbacks. However, Manchester United and Chelsea are still in the title race. So, Arsenal can not be relaxed at this stage of the league. What is more, they did not have their African stars for the last few weeks as they are away on international duty in African Nations Cup 2008. Now, they are coming back as Arsenal’s pursuit to win the title of premier league getting brighter. Now, it is down to Wenger boys to hold on the five points lead at the top of premier league.
