Serena Williams Advances into Second Round in Australian Open 2008

Serena Williams reached the second round of Australian Open 2008 defeating newly-become Australian Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3, 6-3. The wild card Gajdosova failed to pose any threat to the defending champion. With this impressive victory, Serena Williams has started her Australian Open mission to defend her title successfully. Serena will face Yuan Meng of China in the second round match of Australian Open 2008.

Serena Williams did not give any chance to her opponent today. She looked very confident. In her post match reaction, the younger Williams sister has stated that she is now happier state of mind.

The Age reported:

The out-there Williams spent the majority of her press conference fielding questions about her now-infamous blog, in which she recently detailed a love affair gone sour, laughing about the reaction it caused, and promising she was in a positive frame of mind. "I have honestly never been in a happier state of mind than what I am now," she said. "I'm always happy and smiling. I think because I have kind of made it all about me."

Serena Williams is one of the most favorite to win the title of Australian Open 2008, along with world no. 1 Henin and Sharapova, both of whom also made it to the second round in similar fashion. If Serena can survive till the semi final, then she could face either Henin or Sharapova. Now, let us see if Serena Williams can continue her superb form and progress to the next round.
