Jelena Jankovic Sets up Quarter Final Clash with Serena Williams

Jelena Jankovic reached the quarter final of Australian Open 2008 with a 7-6 6-1 victory over the home girl Casey Dellacqua, who defeated Amelie Mauresmo in the third round and Patty Schnyder in the second round. The third seed Jelena Jankovic looked more confident it the match after the hard-fought third round victory. With this victory, Jankovic ended last hope of Australia and set up a thrilling another grand slam meeting with Serena Williams.

The match was not as easy as the score shows. Jelena Jankovic had to face strong challenge in the first set, which she won 7-3 on tie break. In the second set, it was easier for Jankovic to secure the victory. To tell the truth, the array of mistakes of her opponent made the task easy for Jelena Jankovic.

Guardian reported:

"To be honest, I was very nervous," Jankovic said in a courtside interview. "Playing an Aussie is very difficult because I had (the crowd) not on my side.

"I thought that Casey played very well. I want to congratulate her for a very good tournament. It's a great run.

"I was injured (before the tournament) so I am very happy to be in the quarter-final."

Jankovic now play against defending champion Serena Williams, whom she lost to in the fourth round of 2007 Australian Open. Serena Williams has been showing the same red-hot form that she had last year. She has not lost any set in Australian Open 2008. On the other hand, reaching the quarter final has been the best ever Australian Open performance of Jelena Jankovic. However, the third seed has not been in her great form in the tournament. So, it is almost certain that Jankovic is going to face some tougher challenges from Serena Williams in the quarter final of Australian Open 2008 tournament.
