England vs Switzerland: Eriksson Backs Beckham to Play 100th Match for England

Lots of things have been changed since the farewell of former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson. Captain David Beckham is no more a part and parcel of the team since his last season move to American club L.A. Galaxy. England already saw off Steve McClaren, who took over from Eriksson, following their failure to qualify for this year’s EURO football tournament.

Now, England is going to face Switzerland in an international friendly on 6 February. This could be the 100th match for David Beckham for England. However, it is yet confirmed if new coach Fabio Capello will give a chance to the former England captain to play his 100th match for England. Beckham has already started training with Arsenal squad in order to impress Capello, under whom Beckham had a tough time while playing in Real Madrid.

Now, Eriksson has come to help him out saying David Beckham still deserved to be in England team. The current manager of Manchester City has also indicated that the door is open for Beckham if he wants to play in Manchester City.

Thaindian reported:

“If David wants to come back to England I would say yes, come to Manchester City. I still believe he deserves to be in the England team. Not just because of it being his 100th cap, but because he is still a great player. His right foot is still as good as it ever was. Even if he is in America, David can still fight for his place in the team.”

“I can’t see him coming back here. I think he will finish his career in America. He has a long contract and he is very keen to make football popular in America. And if anyone can do that, it’s David,”

Well, I do not know if Eriksson’s comment could help Beckham to get his place in the starting line up of England against Switzerland, but what is obvious is that Beckham has to prove his worth again if he wants to win a place in the England team. There is no other way to make it easier for David Beckham.
