In the first day of the Super Eight round of Twenty20 world cup 2007 three matches have been held. Host South Africa, New Zealand and world champion Australia won their respective matches. In the first match of the day, New Zealand beat India by 10 runs. Though at one stage of the match, it seemed that India was going to win the match easily, India could not win the match because of the sudden break down of their middle order and lower order batting line up. In the first wicket partnership India put on 76 runs but their later batsmen could not live up to the expectation. New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori took four wickets and Indian batsmen Gautam Gambhir scored 51 runs.
In the second match, Australia thrashed Bangladesh by 9 wickets. Brett Lee becomes the first bowlers of Twenty20 cricket to make a hat trick. In the last match of the day, South Africa defeated England by 19 runs.
Bloomberg reported:
Host nation South Africa made 154-8 from its 20 overs, with Albie Morkel striking four sixes in a 20-ball 43, then England struggled to 135-7 in Cape Town.
Australia's Brett Lee took a hat-trick as the 50-over world champion restricted Bangladesh to 123-8 before racing to 124-1 in only 13.5 overs in Cape Town. Matthew Hayden hit an unbeaten 73 for Australia, with Adam Gilchrist making 43 in a 104-run opening partnership.
