Sri Lanka based television channel Sri Lanka Rupavahini (TV) Corporation (SLRC) will telecast the rugby world cup 2007 matches in Sri Lanka. This is a good news for the rugby loving fans in Sri Lanka that they will be able to watch the rugby world cup 2007 matches live. However, not all matches will be telecast live on SLRC. Rather some selected matches will be telecast live on SLRC.
SLRC will telecast only 19 matches live for the Sri Lankan fans. SRLC is a national television network of Sri Lanka. SLRC was funded by Japan as a gift to Sri Lanka. The channel is mainly used for education and information. Sri Lanka Rupavahini (TV) Corporation is a free to air (FTA) channel and that is why, all Sri Lankan people have access to this channel.
This is a praiseworthy initiative of SLRC. Rugby is an international sport. So, telecasting rugby world cup 2007 is a good way to increase the popularity of rugby in Sri Lanka. I think, other South Asian countries can follow SLRC in order to develop Rugby in this region. Rugby international board can also offer license at a lower price to the television channels of this region. Rugby world cup 2007 will start from 7 September 2007 in France.
