Roger Federer: Top favorite in U.S. Open 2007

Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis player and world’s number one is also the top favorite in upcoming U.S Open 2007. The biggest challenge for Federer is playing on hard court. He is very good at playing on clay court. The Times-Herald reports:

Federer will be the overwhelming favorite to take his fourth consecutive U.S. Open. How dominant has the Swiss star been? He's reached each of the last nine grandslam finals. He's won seven times, losing only in the final match on the clay of the French Open (2006, 2007).

They don't play the U.S. Open on clay. Maybe they should. Or at least require Federer to play his matches on the surface. This could still be a problem since he's now arguably the second best clay court player in the world.

It won't be easy to beat Federer but Rafael Nadal has proven that the world No.1 is human and last weekend Novak Djokovic edged Federer up in Montreal in three grueling sets.

The Americans will have every opportunity to do well. Some of them are still smarting from going winless in nine matches in the opening round of the French Open.

Tennis is a game that not only requires physical stamina but lot of patience and determination. Anything can happen in tennis. Few days ago, the former Rogers Cup Champion Ana Ivanovic lost to Yan Zi of China. Federer is now in his best shape and the U.S Open will be his third major game of this year. Let’s see what is restored for him.
