10 Things You Should Know about Google TiSP (beta)

Google TiSP (beta) is not even 1 day old but it has created a huge storm in the Internet world. I just did a Google search about it and found numerous results in Google News. The same goes for blog search and Technorati search. Anyway, here are 10 things you should know about Google TiSP (beta).

1. Google has launched Google TiSP (beta) on 1 April, 2006. So, it is just a few hours old.

2. Google is offering free broadband Internet service through Google TiSP (beta). Yes, you do not have to pay any money to get it. There are 3 categories to choose from:

Trickle (free), The #2 ($9.95/mo.) and Royal Flush ($24.95/mo.).

3. You have to install the Google TiSP in your toilet. Google will provide all the necessary things. So, you do not have to worry about instaltion.

4. Google is offering Google TiSP to users of Canada and US only at this moment. Google will perhaps offer Google TiSP in other gradually.

5. Google has entered in partnership with water companies so that Google can reach all the households easily.

6. The system requirements for Google TiSP are:

Windows XP/Vista (Mac and Linux support coming soon)

Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox 1.5+ with the Google Toolbar

Round-front or elongated toilet providing at least 1.0 gallons per flush

Use of automatic toilet bowl cleaners is not recommended

7. Google TiSP will provide you Internet speed of 10 times faster than basic dialup without any expense.

8. Google Privacy Policy applies to Google TiSP. So, you do not have to worry about the information of your toilet. Even if you have a dirty toilet, it will not be displayed in Google image search.

9. Wireless connectivity will ensure that you will not suffer "commode congestion" and can browse Internet smoothly.

10. The last and most important matter is that Google TiSP (beta) is a April Fools Joke from Google. So, do not take it seriously at all.

In the official blog of Google, Michael Krantz and Marissa Mayer, TiSP Product Team have written:

That's what we call it here at Google, anyway. What you'll call it is a godsend: free wireless broadband throughout your home, a host of optional breakthrough applications -- all with just one quick, easy self-install.

I have to admit that it is one of the best April Fools Jokes ever. Many people like me actually fell for it. However, I would surely love to see Google and other leading tech companies take this kind of initiative to spread Internet in the poor countries of the world.

Wireless broadband service from Google isn't that surprising. Google's acquisitions of dark fiber and other moves in the ISP field, indicate their interest in the market. There is some truth in every joke, and high-speed Internet service from Google is a possibility!
