"People have been asking 'what is in World Cup of Cricket 2007for us?' So the Government has secured a licence so that you will be able to use the JBDC to have access to the many thousands of persons who will be attending World Cup Cricket,"
There are certain rules in using the logo of this biggest international cricket tournament. Any person or institution has to take permission to use this logo from concerned authority. All the rights of ICC World Cup cricket 2007 West Indies are kept to International Cricket Council (ICC). Regarding the copyright and the results of abusing this right, Robert Bryan, Executive Director of the Jamaica Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, said:
"All of us will pay a price if this is not done, because the government has had to back this agreement by a guarantee of US$12 million. Therefore the persons, who have paid to use these marks and rights, will have the ability to draw down on this money, if the country misbehaves"
"You cannot simply take it up on yourself and use the copyrighted marks and think you have done a brilliant job when painting these marks on walls of businesses or on signs"
"It is regarded as an infringement as it is an attempt to pass off an official association with the event without having the rights to do so"
"In some instances, they will be subject to legal proceedings."
It is a good initiative taken by Jamaican government for the country’s business sector as they can now make profit through using the logo of the world cup cricket 2007. They can now make a boom in their business sector as well as economy too.
