Top 10 Children Movies

Every year, a lot of movies are produced in the western world. The good thing is that many people are interested about children movies. That is why, the film companies can invest millions of dollars and hire the best talents. Often, these movies become very successful in the box office and even overtake the movies for the adult people in terms of gross income. Here, I have made a list of 10 children movies. I have included some animation films too.

I know that this kind of list often invokes strong passion among the readers as they find that many of their favorite movies are absent. I apologize for it in advance. However, I request you to leave the name of your favorite children movie in the comment section so that later, I can compile another list based on your votes.

Harry potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter is now in the list of the greatest movies of all time. Though the movie is mainly for children, its artistic and thrilling story made it popular to the people of all ages too. The movie is the fourth highest grossing movie ever released in Hollywood with its worldwide income of $926,287,400. The movie is based on a novel of the same name written by J.K. Rowling. This is the first sequel of the Harry Potter series. It is noteworthy that the next three sequels of Harry Potter series were also made into film. Harry is the central character of this movie. His parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldemort while Harry was just one year old. However, surprisingly Voldemort could not kill Harry. He lives with his aunt, uncle and cousin. At the eleventh birthday he joins in a wizard school where he learned magic. Then along with his two friends, Harry intends to meet with Voldemort. Daniel Radcliffe played the role of Harry Potter. The other actors in the movie were Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Terence Bayler etc. The movie was directed by Chris Columbus and produced by Warner Bros.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

This is the first and most famous movie of one of the greatest science fiction movie series of all time, Star Wars. George Lucas directed this classic movie. It is about a mission of saving a planet called Naboo. Jedi knights, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi along with an outcast Jar-Jar Binks come to help the Queen of Naboo. The leader of the trade federation and the strongest dark lord of the sith want to invade the planet. The movie is in the sixth position in the list of the highest grossing movies of all time with its world wide income of $924,317,558. The movie was distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Shrek

This animated movie is the production of Dream Works Animation SKG. The story, Shrek was based on the fairy tale picture book by William Steig. This famous computer animated movie was the Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Feature in 2002. This is the second highest grossing animated movie of all time in USA. It has earned $267.6 million and its budget was $60 million. The story is based on the relativity of love where a true love is seen between an ogre, Shrek and a human lady, Princess Fiona. They both thought themselves that they are ugly and not eligible for each other but the inner truth is that they both have love to each other. After being appointed by the lord Farquaad, Shrek goes to save the princess from the grasp of Dragon. Shrek and Princess Fiona both fall in love while returning from the mission. A talkative donkey accompanied them. There are some other supernatural ideas in the movie which make the movie more eventful and climatic. Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz played the background voices of Shrek and Fiona respectively. The movie was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

This film is another masterpiece of Harry potter series. This movie is based on the fourth novel of this series written by J.K. Rowling. This movie is ranked number 9 in the list of the all time highest grossing movies. The movie could make $892,213,036 worldwide. The story is about a competition among three wizard schools including Harry’s Hogwarts School. The competition named Goblet of Fire is just for the students of seventh years but Harry’s name is entered in the competition though he is in fourth year in the school. This classic movie was directed by Mike Newell and produced by Warner bros.

E.T. Extra Terrestrial

This is one of the greatest Science fiction children movies of all time. The movie was awarded Academy Award in 1982 and it created a huge interest at that time among people of all ages- not just only among the children. It ranked in the third position in the list of top ten kid’s movies of all time in terms of domestic gross earnings. Its domestic gross revenue was $435,110,554. The movie is based on a little boy of 10 and his communication with an alien who was detached from a group of alien botanists while visiting the earth. That boy named Elliot found that alien on Earth. With the time passes, both of the two became best of friends. Elliot helps ET to communicate with his own group of people escaping the government’s eye. Here, on Earth, ET understood the life of the human beings with the help of Elliot and Elliot realized the value of a true friendship. At last, a group of aliens came on Earth after getting the message of E.T. Then the heartbreaking moment comes when E.T. intends to go back with his species. This classic movie is another special creation of Steven Spielberg, who is widely known as a laurel director. This movie was distributed by Universal Pictures.

Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo is the Oscar winning animated movie. The movie is in the 5th position of the list of the top ten children’s movie of all time in terms of domestic income. The movie is the product of Pixar Animation which was released in 2003. The movie is based on a clownfish, Marlin. Marlin is very careful about his son, Nemo as he is the only living member of Marlin’s family. Marlin taught his son careful about the danger of the sea. In one stage of the movie, Nemo is caught in the net of a scuba diving dentist. Then the real thrill of this excellent film starts. Nemo’s father along with a blue tang starts a dangerous journey toward the dentist’s office with a view to rescue his son. In the meantime, Nemo along with other fishes joins in a mission of escaping from the dentist’s aquarium to come back to his father. This movie was voiced by Albert Brooks as Marlin, Ellen DeGeneres as Dolly, Alexander Gould as Nemo and many more. Its opening weekend gross was $70,251,710 which is highest for any animated movie of Hollywood. More than the money, it is a touching story about father and son relationship.

Home Alone (1990)

I don’t know about you but I can never think of making a list of children movie without home alone. It is indeed a timeless classic and it still makes many of us laugh. It got nominated for 2 Oscars. The movie made Macaulay Culkin perhaps the most famous child actor of 1990s.

The Lion King

The Lion King is one of the greatest productions of Walt Disney Pictures and the highest-grossing animated film of all time in the USA. Its initial earning was $312.8 million. The film was released in 1994. The estimated budget of this film is $79,300,000. The story was based on the kingdom of Pride lands in Africa. The king of this kingdom is named Mufasa, a lion, where lions rule over other animals. The central character of this film is King Mufasa’s young child Simba who would become the next king. Scar, the brother of the king Mufasa, becomes jealous of this matter. So, he starts making plan to kill both the king and his son to clear the way of his being the next king. He then kills the king strategically but Simba was able to flee from the kingdom. Scar makes a lame excuse that Simba is responsible for his father’s death. Later Simba could regain the throne after some battle with Scar. This film was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The producer is Don Hahn. In this movie all of the background voices of the animated characters were very famous movie stars including Matthew Broderick for adult Simba, Jonathan Taylor Thomas for child Simba, James Earl Jones for Mufasa. The song of this film ‘Circle of Life’ became very popular at that time. Elton John composed the songs and Tim Rice gave the vocal in the songs. This film was re-released in the giant-screen in the IMAX format in 2002.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

The Wizard of Oz is the movie selected as one of the top ten children’s films of all time by the British Film Institute (BFI). The movie was directed by Victor Fleming and initially distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer form 1939-1937 and later Warner Bros. got the job form 1998 to present. This musical fantasy film was very popular among the children in that time. The central character in the movie is Dorothy who became a victim of a cyclone which led her to the strange, magical Oz Land. There, she along with her dog, a tin man, a scarecrow, and a lion started their mission to come back to their home land. Judy Garland played the role of the Dorothy. Besides Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton starred on the movie. The movie is also a special one for its excellent music. Although it was made in 1939, Wizard of Oz is still popular today. This movie won 2 Oscars.

Baby’s Day Out

This children comedy movie is very famous among not only the children rather among the elderly people too. The movie was directed by Patrick Read Johnson and was based on the story of John Hughes. The movie is about the Baby Bink who is kidnapped by three kidnappers. Later on, it was very hard to maintain this kid as it makes their life hell doing some unimaginable things. What are those things? To know about it, just go through the movie.

    the 'IRON GIANT' was and always will be a great favorite in our house . we just wish there was an 'IRON GIANT 2' to keep us all happy for the next 5 years...
